I went to watch the motor racing at the Brands Hatch race track in May 2018. This was my first time going to a motor racing event and my first chance to photograph cars in motion, this is one of the most difficult times i've had trying to adjust the camera settings, before the event I had a look online to try to find out some recommended settings for shooting cars on the track. My brother also helped me out on the day, finding out that it's a good idea to shoot in shutter speed priority mode. Something I struggled with on the day was to have a blurred background whilst the car remained in focus on the track, creating the commonly seen effect in this type of photography which makes the car look like it's in motion in a still image. I found that shooting in shutter priority mode and tracking the car after I had taken the shot made for some good results. I also experimented with using the low key setting on my camera, the photos I took in this setting showed the shadows in greater effect but also dramatically reduced the light exposure on the car, especially the wheels. I quite like shooting in this setting because there is a clearer contrast between the colours on the picture, however there is a compromise in terms of the overall exposure quality.
